Price: $27,500,000 The Skinny: The late, legendary architect Paul Rudolph, dean of the Yale School of Architecture and designer some of the country's best known Brutalist structures, sparked controversy in the late 1970s when he purchased a townhouse on Manhattan's buttoned-up Beekman Place, tore the roof off, and built himself an unabashedly modern triplex penthouse. The legendary apartment was renovated in 2006 by Jared Della Valle and Andrew Bernheimer, who added glass to the low railings and changed many of the finishes, while keeping the floorplan intact. The house contains three additional apartments, but recently came up for sale as a whole, for a whopping $27.5M. All of the apartments are currently occupied, with the penthouse leased until April at around $14K a month.
