House of the Day: On 500 Private Acres, Luxurious Ski Compound Asks $50M

Have a nomination for a jaw-dropping listing that would make a mighty fine House of the Day? Get thee to the tipline and send us your suggestions. We'd love to see what you've got.

Location: Snowmass Village, Colo.
Price: $50,000,000
The Skinny: Nestled in the mountains in Snowmass Village, a tiny ski town of 3,000 some 20 minutes from Aspen, this 500-acre compound includes a 23,000-square-foot main house, a 2,700-square-foot guest house, a five-stall horse barn, a riding arena, an outdoor fireplace, and an indoor spa with "a hot tub mounted with cocktail stands," as Curbed Ski points out. The home was completed last year and undoubtedly has that new-build smell, which may turn some buyers off, but with a massive, modern kitchen; a massive, modern fireplace; a massive, modern theater with loveseats and ottomans; a massive, modern marble shower for two; and a massive, modern walk-in closet, the winter-sports paradise threatens to make anything historic seem downright, well, inadequate. And while there's an impressive quantity of vaulted ceilings and an exterior that's partially stone, with those enormous wall-to-wall windows wrapping practically the entire living space, this place is a far cry from the old-school Adirondack-style retreats so famous in this region. That's not to say the price won't make reasonable souls choke: $50M.
