To honor world-renown Parisian designer Andée Putman, the modernist legend who passed away this weekend, here's a collection of her most striking work. Known for her streamlined spaces, Putman, who worked well into her 80s, designed for government bureaus, art museums, homes of the stars—including the Moroccan place owned by Arielle Dombasle—retail spaces for the likes of Karl Lagerfeld, and an atrium in France's national stadium. What's more: she's credited with designing the first boutique hotel; her 1984 renovation of the Morgans Hotel in NYC is considered by many her break-out role. ("Because I started working in New York, the French suddenly asked for me," she once said.) Above, a selection of her work, dating from a 1978 boutique (that's probably overdone, by her later standards) to 2008, a year after her daughter took the helm of Studio Putman. Most designs revel in her signature brand of crispness and clarity and uphold one of her most well-known soundbites: "Good design is pure and simple, and I am interested in that family of things that will never date."
