Rumormongering: Is This Posh Five-Star Hotel Unit Oprah's New Bev Hills Pad?

Boasting about an "exclusive residential elevator," a "state-of-the-art security system," and "the ultimate lifestyle," it seems likely that the Sotheby's wordsmiths behind the brokerbabble of this condo were pegging the hotel abode for a celebrity jetsetter. Well, The Real Estalker hears that the Montage Beverly Hills hotel has hit the rich-folk jackpot: billionaire media icon Oprah Winfrey has reportedly snatched up a residential unit there for $14.025M. The four-bedroom apartment does seem to have the luxe factor Winfrey looks for in her properties, what with 6.5 bathrooms and some 5,781 square feet of Mediterranean-style finishes. Plus, it's well-known that Winfrey is not one to shy away from expensive portfolio purchases; heck, she never even lived in the swank Chicago co-op she listed (and sold) this summer. Plus, she still owns a 23,000-square-foot palace in Montecito, Calif., and Hawaiian parcels that are, according to The Real Estalker, multiplying like bunnies.

Anyway, the condo, perched on the seventh floor of the building, includes access to hotel amenities, plus two fireplaces, a steam shower, and private balconies with views of SoCal's shrubby mountains. It's all quite posh, but it must be asked: would Winfrey, whose network has struggled with ratings since its debut, really drop this much cash on a new home just months after selling that glitzy Chicago pad for less than half the price she paid for it? Uh, yeah. Probably.
