The Umschreibung, or "Rewriting," is a 30-foot-tall steel double helix created by Danish-Icelandic artist Olafur Eliasson and erected in the middle of Munich, Germany, in 2004. Regarded simultaneously as a "staircase to nowhere," yet one of the most beautiful in the world, Eliasson's creation is but one of many that embrace the artistic potential of, say, transitioning between floors.
